    AFC Volunteer Levy Program 2025/26

    For 2025/26, every family will:

    2. Commit to performing 6 volunteer hours per registered athlete.

    How it works:

    1. Complete your hours between November 15, 2025 and May 31, 2026.

    2. Submit our Google Form outlining your contributions.

Apex Freestyle is not a learn to ski program.

  • Okanagan Shred Sessions:

The Okanagan Shred Series is a fun, regional freestyle skiing competition series for developing athletes in BC's Okanagan, hosted by clubs at resorts like Silver Star, Apex, and Big White, sponsored by FH&P Lawyers, offering entry-level slopestyle & mogul events to build skills in a supportive, community-focused environment. Organized by Freestyle BC, it helps young skiers transition from training to competition, with events featuring both Slopestyle and Moguls disciplines.

    Timber Tour / Shred Series:

Freestyle BC's provincial ski competition circuit for young athletes in Moguls, Slopestyle, Big Air, and Dual Moguls, offering skill development and competitive events at various BC ski resorts, culminating in the BC Championships, with different levels of competition like the foundational Shred Series and the more advanced Timber Tour, helping athletes progress through the sport.

    • Shred Series:

U8 to U14 Often serves as an introductory level, focusing on skill development and fun, with requirements like a Club Level License.

    • Timber Tour:

      U14 to U20

The NorAm competition series is part of the FIS Continental Cup level of competitions and serves as a place to gain international competition experience as athletes prepare for World Cup events later in their career. There are five Continental Cup series; host nations of the NorAm circuit are the USA and Canada; athletes from non-NorAm nations do have the opportunity to compete at these events.

  • In the past, AFC has supplemented all costs associated with supplying an AFC coach to any competition in which 3 or more AFC athletes will be participating. It is worth noting that AFC is one of the only clubs in the entire country who has supplemented all costs associated with supplying coaches to competitions, while other clubs have utilized cost-recovery models for more than a decade.

While this has sustained a prolonged effort to keep competition attendance as affordable as possible for families, the club has unfortunately reached its limitation in supplementing all costs associated with events away from our home resort, and as such, has made the difficult decision to create a Competition Travel Policy. We did not take this decision lightly, and will do our utmost to increase fundraising efforts to continue supplementing costs wherever and whenever possible.

    2025/26 COMPETITION TRAVEL POLICY

    SUMMARY

Beginning in the 2025/26 season, Apex Freestyle Club will be using a graduated “pay-to-play” model to give families maximum flexibility and keep base registration fees accessible. This model ensures that families only pay for activities beyond the base program — offering personalized choice while allowing the club to recover a portion of actual costs for events, coaching, and travel. The club will implement a tiered cost recovery model over the next three years using the following format:

    YEAR

    COST COVERAGE RATIO

    2025/2026

40% of total actual costs split equally amongst participants/60% subsidized by AFC

    2026/2027

50% of total actual costs split equally amongst participants/50% subsidized by AFC

    2027/2028

60% of total actual costs split equally amongst participants/40% subsidized by AFC

WHAT IS COVERED AND WHAT IS NOT?

What Your Program Registration Fee Covers

Any activities outside of pre-determined program dates — such as competitions, additional training days, or special events — may be subject to additional fees, which are calculated based on actual costs and shared equally amongst participating families.

    What Additional Fees May Include:

    • Coach travel costs, for example:

      • Mileage for comps within driving distance

      • Flights for comps that require flying, as well as baggage costs

      • Ferry costs for competitions on Vancouver Island

      • Rental car and gas for competitions that require flying etc.

    • Coach accommodation and per diem

These expenses are shared between the club and families and families will only pay the non-subsidized portion, divided evenly among the athletes who attend.

    Competitions at Apex Mountain Resort

When a competition is held at our home mountain, the following applies:

    • No charge for coach travel, accommodation, or per diem

    • Potential coaching fees for optional training dates outside of regular program dates

This approach maintains fairness while keeping costs reasonable, and encourages as many athletes as possible to participate in competitions held at our home resort.

    GUEST ATHLETES

Athletes from other clubs who participate with Apex Freestyle as guest athletes will be charged drop-in rates as outlined in the regular season registration.

In addition to drop-in training fees, guest athletes will also share equally in any additional event-related costs, such as coach travel, accommodations, per diems etc. — the same as registered club athletes.

This ensures a fair and consistent approach for all participants involved in shared training or competition events.

    INCREASED FUNDRAISING EFFORTS

AFC appreciates that this new policy may present additional challenges for families and has taken steps to increase fundraising efforts to offset the financial burden of these new costs. The club also encourages families to engage in their own fundraising efforts, and will provide support wherever possible to families seeking to do so. Important to note, these fundraising opportunities can be used against the 6 volunteer hours required of all families and thus can be submitted for reimbursement of the volunteer levy once these 6 hours have been completed.

Some fundraising efforts that the club will be taking on in the 2025/26 season may include but are not limited to:

    • Club-wide movie nights

    • Krispy Kreme donut drive

    • Raffle draws at events

    • Spring club-wide auction

Have a fundraising idea or in need of support for your own effort? Contact AFC’s Fundraising Coordinator, Kelly Farley, at Farleyoffice@gmail.com.
